Things I learned today:

1. Cats only meow at humans. Never at other cats. They will hiss and siss and spit and yowl, but never meow. Another step in the direction of direct human/cat language.

2. Teens aren't actually lazy (no surprise). Their circadian rhythm changes when they hit puberty and their brain no longer produces the chemicals that make them sleepy around 8-9 PM and, instead, releases them around 11 PM. Makes it almost impossible for a teen to fall asleep sooner. Once released into the body, these sleep chemicals don't cycle through until about 8-9 AM. That means getting teens up and putting them to work in school at those hours is demanding them do all that work, acquire all that knowledge while jet lagged. Every day. For 4-6 years. We just have to make life more difficult, don't we?
